Dear Fellow House Music Lover, So many friends ask me what House Music CD's I recommend they buy. Since I spend countless hours a week in record stores listening to both records and new CDs for new songs I can then buy on record, I have weeded through hundreds of music CDs, some good, many not so good, and then, those few, shining stars that truly deserve our pocket book and deserve to be called "platinum". Finding great house music, especially CDs commercially distributed in traditional music stores is no easy chore. Like myself, many of you share a certain house music sound you are looking for... The true San Francisco House sound... Deep, Soulful, Sexy, Funky... However, there are many genres of house music and other forms of dance music (progressive, dub, garage, 2-step, ambient, hard, high energy, jungle, drum&bass, breakbeat, etc.) that our music store friends do not know how to properly classify and organize; hence, the challenge. Throughout this grieving process of countless misspent dollars and painful listening hours, I do discover a few CDs here and there that are absolutely incredible and too good to be not be shared. These record artists and DJ's (many local San Franciscans) truly deserve to be recognized. So "Donovan's Picks" is my dedicated effort to provide a trustworthy resource on "new" and "old" music that deserves your attention. Each CD listed links to an online retailer where you can listen to many of the tracks and purchase the CD if you like it. I will be updating this section on a monthly basis.
